You have an amazing machine, your body, and we will encourage you to use it to the full; but equally it’s no good putting your body through the mill without giving it a helping hand in return. Strength training alone can lead to injury, especially if you have pre-existing niggles and imbalances. For this reason, the Foundry has teamed up with Victory Health & Performance, leaders in the field of medical rehabilitation, to provide you with a full support structure to underpin and complement your personal training programme.
All new training clients undergo an initial assessment prior to training. This includes a structural, biomechanical, nutrition and biody composition analysis, enabling us to build the right programme for you and your goals.
If required, a fully integrated treatment plan to accompany your training can include some or all of the following. You simply choose the treatment and therapists you want based on budget, time and preferences.
- Physiotherapy – to diagnose and treat injuries and get rid of pain.
- Massage – to maintain and enhance soft tissue compliance and aid recovery after training.
- Rehabilitation therapy – to correct imbalances, strengthen weaknesses, rehabilitate injuries and prevent future injury.
- Podiatry – to assess and treat problematic foot posture and imbalances.
- Performance psychology – to help you reduce stress levels and improve motivation.
- Nutrition therapy – to ensure that you are getting the extra nutrients that you need to assist your performance when you train hard.
(Some or all of these may be available on your health insurance (please contact us or your provider to check)
Physical, Health and Nutritional Assessment
Our health and postural assessments are compulsory for all new clients because every knock and scrape, even as a child, can potentially impact the mechanical function of your body. Whether it’s down to an accident, old sporting injury, work environment or general aches and pains, we can treat, train and educate you in correct biomechanics and efficient movement patterns.
There are 3 assessment options, (Essential, Advanced and Interdisciplinary) depending on your budget and requirements. You may also be able to claim this on your health insurance. Please contact us or your provider to check.
Physiotherapy and Massage
Everyone at some time has probably complained of ‘a niggly back’, ‘a gammy leg’, ‘the old sciatica’, but what many people don’t realise is that most of these problems are postural and can be caused by muscular imbalances. Your entire body is interconnected so a problem in one area can cause a domino effect of pain elsewhere. At Victory, we offer a full range of manual therapies from luxury relaxing massage to the Sarah Key Method of physiotherapy, depending on your requirements. We are also registered with several private health insurers. Please contact us or your provider to check if you are covered.
Rehabilitation Therapy
No matter what your goals, we can improve the mechanical functioning of your body; and as your body works more effectively you will feel better and will achieve faster results elsewhere. Many of our trainers and therapists are movement specialists but for specific injury rehabilitation, it’s tough to better the military approach showcased at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court.
Victory brings precisely this approach to the City for the first time, as some of Headley Court’s top rehabilitation therapists have agreed to share their expertise with our clients.
Podiatry
The way your feet move and adapt when you hit the ground can have a significant impact on the way your body functions and responds to training stress. Renowned expert on the sporting foot Tom Austen of Podplus brings his skills and his insoles to Victory to assess your gait, ensuring that your shoes are the right ones for you, and that your feet aren’t holding you back from achieving your goals.
Performance Psychology
Stress and emotions are intrinsically connected to results, and if they’re not channelled in the right way, they can really hold you back. Excessive amounts of the stress hormone cortisol, for example, are implicated in people who hold high levels of body fat around the waist and vital organs – and uncontrolled stress also affects motivation, concentration, sleep and recovery, all of which will have a significant impact on your performance and progress.
Well known clinical and sports psychologist Dr Victor Thompson is one of the best around at helping you to deal with and control your stress and emotions so that you can make them work for you in a positive way, helping you to achieve your goals more quickly and fully than you ever thought possible.
Nutrition and Dietary Analysis
Appearances can be deceptive and sometimes, even if you look fantastic on the outside, you may feel rotten on the inside. It’s a harsh message but anyone trying to build muscle, lose fat, improve performance or health without addressing their diet is setting themselves up to fail. Unfortunately many government eating guidelines are misnomers which often do more harm than good. Poor health is often a direct result of serious dietary deficiencies and imbalances.
At the Foundry, we will never advocate ‘fad’ diets, or put you on unrealistic eating regimes based on the droppings of South American fruit bats. Using proven modern biochemistry methods, we will create a nutrition and dietary solution tailored to you, and only you, because what may work for one person may have no effect on another person, and may make a third person worse.
Supplementation
At the Foundry, we do not push supplements on people unnecessarily and actually wish our industry was more ethical on this issue. Is there sometimes a need for proper focussed supplementation? Yes. Do we sell you things you will derive no benefit from just to help the profit margins? No! We source and sell the very best supplements if and when we think you would benefit and are not tied to one single brand. Whilst we believe quality is everything when it comes to supplementation, we do also understand budgetary constraints.
Sometimes it’s better to buy one great supplement than 10 bottles of supermarket pills full of gluten, dairy and soy but occasionally we can save money offering you a cheaper brand which we make no profit on, without losing too much quality. Let us do the research so you don’t have to and book a free consultation today to discuss your requirements. All that said, if you know what you need, we do recommend the natural supplement range of Charles Poliquin, one of the world’s best strength coaches here : Poliquin Supplements
Functional Diagnostic Medicine
Functional medicine is the clinical application of holistic thinking combined with rigorous scientific principles to look at the underlying causes of dysfunction rather than symptoms. This approach focuses on identifying and addressing the nutritional, metabolic and gastro-intestinal imbalances that underlie chronic disease. Whether you’re suffering from hormonal imbalances, a food allergy or some other nasty, we at the Foundry can help you feel better from the inside out by utilising advanced, scientific functional laboratory tests and other diagnostic procedures that look at your medical, dietary and emotional history.
